Tourism Remains Safe Despite Merapi Phreatic Eruption

Yesterday, on Friday morning, 11 May 2018, Mount Merapi in Sleman Regency of Yogyakarta spewed volcanic ash of 5500 m resulted from the phreatic activity.

The volcanic ash rained on the surrounding areas of the region, yet no casualty has been reported. Center of Volcanology and
Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) issued VONA red resulting in the closure of Adi Sucipto international airport from 10.42 am to 4.30 pm local time. PVMBG stated that the mountain remains in normal status.
