The Istanbul Opera House, one of the city’s future symbols, is set up in Taksim

On the famous Taksim Square, construction of the Istanbul Cultural Centre and Opera House has begun. Planned as a « multi-functional art centre », the Istanbul Opera House will be completed in 2019. It will represent not only one of the most competitive art centres, but also one of Istanbul’s architectural icons.
The building project will come to life on an area of 102 m² and was entrusted to the architect Murat Tabanoglu, the son of the architect Hayati Tabanoglu who designed the Atatürk Cultural Centre at the same location.
The construction project envisages 5 buildings dedicated to culture along which will be lengthened lanes arranged. It will consist of 3 rooms with a capacity of 3,737 people, a large stage, rehearsal and recording rooms for soloist and orchestra, exhibition halls, art galleries, meeting rooms, restaurants and cafeterias.
