Establishment of a Tourism Code in Senegal

The Senegalese Minister of Tourism, Mame Mbaye Niang, launched, in the department of Mbour (70km from Dakar), the work of validation of the project of elaboration of the first Tourism Code of Senegal.

We must conceive the sector as a whole, rethink its governance, its organisation, its functioning and the financing of structuring investments.

This work, which was launched in January 2018, brings together professionals in the sector (operators of tourist accommodation establishments, travel, tourism and tourist transport agencies, tourist guides, trade unions of workers in the sector), the services of the supervisory department and other ministries.

The code currently being drawn up will make it possible to regulate the conditions for the exercise of tourist activities and professions « which have all evolved ».

From 963,004 arrivals in 2014, we are today at 1,365,000 tourist entries, so the trends are very favorable compared to the 2018 target.

The Minister made a symbolic presentation of the professional tourist guide card.

Insistent request of the actors, this card makes it possible to frame the exercise of the profession. In total, more than 100 cards have been produced by a selection advisory commission and another 100 will soon be issued.
