Brittany Ferries confirms the arrival of a fourth new ship

The Breton Company has just confirmed the chartering of a 3rd E-Flexer type ferry. This new vessel will be the second E-Flexer powered by LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). It will be built at the AVIC shipyard in Weihai, China and is expected to join the Brittany Ferries fleet in 2023.

This new unit, whose name is not yet known, will be chartered by the Stena group. When it is commissioned, it will be the third E-Flexer type vessel in Brittany Ferries’ fleet, following the arrival of Galicia in 2021 and Salamanca in 2022.

The charter contract, which includes a purchase option, is a new step in the fleet renewal and the company’s transition, representing an investment of approximately 550 million euros.

The Honfleur, currently under construction at the FSG shipyard in Flensburg, Germany, is also part of this programme, which is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2019.

Brittany Ferries, France’s leading employer of seafarers, continues its commitment to the sustainable development. Like Salamanca and Honfleur, this new unit will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

More environmentally friendly, this fuel reduces carbon dioxide by about 20% and reduces sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter emissions to almost zero.

The three 42,200-tonne E-Flexer vessels will be the largest in the Brittany Ferries fleet, with a length of 215 metres, providing 3000 linear metres for freight vehicles, a capacity of around 1,000 passengers and 340 cabins.
