Ryanair facing a cruel dilemma

The extended flight ban on the American manufacturer’s new aircraft worries Ryanair’s general manager. According to him, the airline could not fly any of them in 2020.

Ryanair is not done with the turbulence. Michael O’Leary, the Irish airline’s general manager, expressed his deep concern about the extended flight ban on Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft. As a reminder, these aircraft models have been banned from flying since March 2019, following two air disasters in the space of five months. This situation has led Boeing to reduce its production rate.

« I am concerned that the MAX’s return to service continues to be delayed, » Michael O’Leary told a conference call.

On 16 July last, Ryanair had already stated that it thought it would only have 30 MAX 737s left in the summer of 2020, whereas it had previously planned to be able to fly 58 of them.

Now, the airline’s boss fears that he will not be able to use any of them in 2020. « This would significantly reduce our growth rate, » says Ryanair’s boss.
