Marriott removes single-use toilet product vials from its facilities worldwide

Marriott International has announced the continuation of its initiative to replace single-use shampoo, conditioner and bath gel bottles in hotel shower rooms with larger bottles equipped with pistons.

To date, nearly 1,000 establishments in North America have been equipped with these vials and most other hotels are expected to make the transition by December 2020. Once implemented worldwide, Marriott International’s toiletries bottle replacement program is expected to eliminate approximately 500 million small bottles per year, or approximately 771 tonnes of plastic to landfills, a 30% reduction.

« This is our second global initiative to reduce the use of single-use plastics in just over a year. It reflects the importance we attach to sustainably reducing the environmental impact of our hotels. This is a major priority for us, » said Arne Sorenson, President and CEO of Marriott International.

« Our customers expect us to make changes that will make a real difference to the environment without ever compromising the quality of service and experience they expect from our hotels. »

In more than 7,000 Marriott International locations, more than 20 % of them already offer larger piston vials in the showers of their rooms, ending the single-use vials that accumulate in landfills.
