A radical overhaul of tourism authorities in Mauritius

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is experiencing a period of significant governance instability, culminating yesterday in the dismissal of its Director, Avinash Kanti Teelock, after only six months in office.

This event follows the same day’s resignation of the Chairwoman, Claire Le Lay, signaling a major leadership crisis within this key Mauritian tourism body.

The decision regarding the Director was made following a special meeting of the MTPA (Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority), held yesterday, Tuesday, November 11, chaired by Indira Rugjee, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, who is currently serving as interim chair.

The board voted for the immediate termination of Avinash Kanti Teelock’s contract, marking a new turning point and significant uncertainty regarding the future strategic direction of tourism promotion in Mauritius.
