A Chinese court orders Malaysia Airlines to pay $3.3 million in compensation

A Beijing court has ordered Malaysia Airlines to pay some families of passengers who disappeared aboard flight MH370 more than 2.9 million yuan (US$410,240) per case as compensation, more than ten years after the plane’s disappearance.

These rulings concern eight cases involving eight passengers.

The Chaoyang District People’s Court said in a statement that 47 other lawsuits had been withdrawn after the families reached out-of-court settlements with Malaysia Airlines and its international subsidiary, Malaysia Airlines International.

Twenty-three cases are still pending.

The court indicated that the compensation awarded last Friday was intended to cover funeral expenses, moral damages, and other losses.
