Asian skies : Asia-Pacific hegemony confirmed by 2025

The Asia-Pacific region reaffirmed its undisputed dominance of global air transport in 2025, monopolizing almost all the spots in the ranking of the world’s busiest routes, according to the latest annual report published by the leading organization OAG.

This dominance is overwhelming, as the region now accounts for nine of the ten busiest routes in the world, relegating European and North American air corridors to second place in global connectivity.

At the top of this ranking, the ever-popular South Korean domestic route connecting Jeju Island to Seoul retains its title as the world’s busiest airline, with an impressive total of 14.4 million seats booked this year, marking a slight increase of 1% compared to the previous year.

However, this record statistic masks a more nuanced reality, according to OAG analysts, who point out that despite its leading position, this route still shows a load factor 17% lower than its historical benchmark of 2019, a sign that the market has not yet fully recovered from the effects of the global health crisis.

This regional dynamism, driven by massive domestic demand and an often insular geography that makes air travel essential, is propelling other major routes such as Tokyo-Sapporo and Fukuoka-Tokyo into the busiest corridors.

The overall performance of the Asia-Pacific region in 2025 confirms that the center of gravity of global civil aviation has definitively shifted eastward, illustrating an economic vitality that, while not yet back to its pre-crisis peaks, continues to dictate the pace of the international aviation sector’s recovery.
