IndiGo makes its big comeback in China

After a five-year suspension of services, IndiGo’s return to China signals an improvement in political and trade relations. But the real test will be whether travelers will follow.

IndiGo operated the first Kolkata-Guangzhou flight last Sunday evening, marking the return of non-stop air service between India and China after five years.

This service will be operated daily by the airline’s Airbus A320.

The airline has indicated that its Delhi-Guangzhou route is scheduled to begin on November 10.

Last week, China Eastern Airlines also announced the resumption of flights between Shanghai and Delhi starting November 9.

The route will operate three times a week, on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, using the Airbus A330-200. Tickets are already on sale.

Other routes could follow, including Air India, which is expected to resume its Delhi-Shanghai flights later this year.

If this materializes, it would mark a near-complete restoration of pre-pandemic air links between the two countries.
